"Our Midsummer Supper"

Gazeley and Dalham WI was formed in May 1933. Our first committee meeting was held on 8th June 1933 with Lady Ethel Philips as President and Mrs. Kidd as Vice President.

On 17th May 1934 we held our first birthday party to which Higham WI were invited.

Since that time, the WI’s split into two individual groups, one based in Dalham and the other based in Gazeley. However, in January 1956 they reformed and became Dalham and Gazeley WI once again.

We currently have an active 28 members (and counting!)

The Women's Institute (WI) was formed in 1915 to revitalise rural communities and encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War.

Since then the organisation's aims have broadened and the WI is now the largest voluntary women's organisation in the UK.

The WI celebrated its centenary in 2015 and currently has 212,526 members in around 6,600 WIs.

The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.
